Let It Be You

Each and every day, there are people all around the country and world who are living their dreams. Millionaires are made every day. Families are experiencing tremendous relationships. People are becoming more and more healthy. Life-long learners are growing intellectually and improving their chances for success.

The fact is that living the life of your dreams is possible. People prove that every day. Someone somewhere is going to get rich, get healthy and improve their life. My recommendation is this: Let it be you!

Have you ever wanted to make more money? Have you ever looked at someone who has money and wished that it could be you? People think about getting wealthy all of the time, when only a small percentage actually does. But any of the masses could.

Someone is going to start a business. Someone is going to make a great investment. Someone is going to begin the journey to great wealth. So why not let it be you?

Someone is going to decide to improve their relationships. Someone is going to enjoy love with their family. Someone is going to schedule some meaningful time with their friends. So why not let it be you?

Someone is going to go back to school to improve their life. Someone is going to become a life-long learner. Someone is going to set a goal to read a book or listen to a cd each week for the next year. So why not let it be you?

Someone is going to look in the mirror and see that they need to lose a little weight and they will make the decision to become healthy. Someone will run their first marathon. Someone will join an aerobics class and improve their health. Why not let it be you?

I think that by now you get the point: Everyday people are improving their lives. Whether you do or not doesn’t matter to those who do. They are going to do it, regardless. It is simply a matter of a decision being made. Let that person be you!

You may be asking, “Okay Jim, but how?” Well, let’s cover the very simple actions.

The first and most important is to make a commitment to work on yourself. Are you going to improve or stay the same? No matter what you have achieved, you are at a certain point right now. What you have achieved in the past is fine, but it doesn’t make a difference for the future. The decision about what you will become is made each day and every day. Each day someone is making the decision to better him or herself. Let that person be you!

The second is to make a plan. Once you have decided to become better you will have to have a plan. It doesn’t have to be a long, intricate plan. It can be simple. Save a dollar a day. Walk a mile a day. Read an article a day. That is a simple plan with achievable goals. Someone is going to develop a plan that will take them into the future of their dreams. Let it be you!

The third is to begin to act. All of the great ideas, without action, become stale and useless. The key to turning dreams into reality is action. People who have great ideas are a dime a dozen. People who act on their dreams and ideas are the select few, but they are the ones who gain the wealth, wealth and wisdom that is available. Someone will act today. Let it be you.

My encouragement to you is to stop looking at others who live the good life, wishing that you were as well, and instead begin to commit to your improvement, develop a plan and act on it. Someone is going to. Let it be you!

What Do You Stand For?

Some people might wonder why? Some might laugh? Some might totally get it? Either way, I don't care... It's not about who they are celebrating, but instead celebrating what he stood for... Today marks the 22nd year that the City of Toronto has recognized Feb. 6 as Bob Marley Day. The Bob Marley Award ceremony was be held at City Hall this morning at 10 a.m. The global icon, musical prophet, whose words and vision forever changed the world. His image and music evoke a rich legacy and emotional connection that transcends generation, ethnicity, gender, and geography. In today’s fast-paced, tech-driven world, Marley’s message of unity, freedom, peace, empowerment and love have never been more relevant. #WhatDoYouStandFor #89DaysUntilOurWeddingInJamaica #RIP_BobMarley

Ask Yourself:

Is there anyone else who can do this better than I can? That’s just another way of saying know yourself & know your competition.

Then ask: What am I pretending not to see? These two simple questions can pave the way for some very clear answers

Magnificent Monday

Sorry for not posting over the weekend...

But, today is a Magnificent Monday!

You have been blessed to see the start of another glorious week. The slate has been wiped clean (of the good and bad). You have another opportunity to BE MORE and DO BETTER. This week can be your best week ever! Remember, success is just a string of successful weeks tied together.
Here’s a quote that is particularly insightful and motivating:

For me, winning isn’t something that happens suddenly on the field
when the whistle blows and the crowds roar. Winning is something
that builds physically and mentally every day that you
train and every night that you dream. ~ Emmitt Smith

THIS WEEK’S TIP: Play to Win Everyday

First let me say, I LOVE THIS QUOTE! It embodies everything I promote in my professional life: DAILY, consistent and calculated effort toward a clear vision and motivating goals.

I see it all the time… those who rise to an occasion and simply do enough to get by the rest of the time. It reminds me of my college days when I waited to the night before to write a term paper or study for a big test. Yes, I usually did well enough to pass. But the deep understanding of concepts and applications that builds one’s strategic thinking skills into a formidable arsenal of insights eluded me back then. I was fortunate enough to have a professor inspire me to view everyday as a “big test” and to want to have form and substance. That is to say, she inspired me to not just know the right answer, but to want to know at a core level how to reach the right answer. She inspired me to really want to know “my stuff.” This changed everything for me. Thank you Professor Andante!

So many have only superficial (i.e., a “working”) knowledge of their core business and they only show up “big” when it’s time to play the “game.” Time and the demands of dynamic markets will eventually reveal the superficial ones for what they are: all form and no substance. This is one reason why success, if they manage to attain any, is temporary and/or easily undone. Don’t let this happen to you!

I encourage you to make a conscious decision to view everyday as playing the “game” and then play to win EVERDAY. Avoid being one of those who only rise to an occasion. Daily, consistent and calculated effort toward a clear vision and motivating goals produces a strong foundation for success that will not be undone by hard times. In fact, so-called hard times will only catapult your success further because you’ll have the insights and understanding necessary to anticipate and capitalize on change, while the superficial ones are paralyzed and crumbling around you from “unexpected” demands. Lasting success belongs to those who not only know the right answer, but also know how to reach the right answer (i.e., the true strategic thinkers).

THIS WEEK’S AFFIRMATION: Everyday, I consciously give consistent and calculated effort toward knowing and understanding my core business, and to completion of daily goals.

Here’s a quote that is particularly insightful and motivating:

In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life, it goes on. ~ Robert Frost

THIS WEEK’S TIP: Keep Looking Forward

Too often, we forget our “big picture” and agonize over isolated situations. In the days before I gained the ability to consistently put these isolated events into proper perspective, I would agonize over situations to the point of developing seriously uncomfortable medical conditions. I am now ingrained with the belief that all the worry and stress we feed these kinds of situations only serve to age us prematurely and keep us in the chaos longer than necessary.

Just think about previous “end of the world” situations you experienced in the past. You may remember agonizing over the situations, but it’s unlikely that you remember all of the details of most of these situations. No matter how troubling, horrific or bothersome a current situation may seem, it too shall pass because life goes on. The only question is, what kind of mark will the situation leave on you? Will you allow it to leave you physically weaker and emotionally compromised? Or, will you recognize the lesson it is teaching and allow it to serve your bigger picture by making you stronger and wiser? It is your choice. Choose and act wisely.

THIS WEEK’S AFFIRMATION: Everyday, I keep all situations in proper perspective, and am made stronger and wiser by every experience

No one ever attains very eminent succes
by simply doing what is required of him;
it is the amount and excellence of what is over and above
the required that determines the greatness of ultimate distinction.
~ Charles Kendall Adams

THIS WEEK’S TIP: Go the Extra Mile

I know that you are a person who desires extraordinary success. I know this because you wouldn’t be reading this message if you had average expectations. However, despite your deeply held desires, overwhelming demands on your schedule can unknowingly breed the habit of doing the minimum required and just getting by. This is a form of survival mentality… and it’s deadly. This form of thinking creeps in and takes root without obvious signs. Usually, it isn’t until you are caught up in its vicious cycle that you stop and give serious thought to what is really going on.

You can begin to break the cycle of survival mentality by scrutinizing your schedule, prioritizing your responsibilities and goals, and releasing some commitments that detract from your ability to go beyond the minimum required. It’s essential that you give yourself all that you need, including time, to excel and exceed expectations in your core tasks and projects. Remember, extraordinary success requires efforts and results beyond the ordinary.

THIS WEEK’S AFFIRMATION: Everyday, I give myself all I need to excel and exceed expectations in my core tasks and projects.

Procrastination

Great read by a true legend...

Ending Procrastination by Jim Rohn

Perseverance is about as important to achievement as gasoline is to driving a car. Sure, there will be times when you feel like you’re spinning your wheels, but you’ll always get out of the rut with genuine perseverance. Without it, you won’t even be able to start your engine.

The opposite of perseverance is procrastination. Perseverance means you never quit. Procrastination usually means you never get started, although the inability to finish something is also a form of procrastination.

Ask people why they procrastinate and you’ll often hear something like this: “I’m a perfectionist. Everything has to be just right before I can get down to work. No distractions, not too much noise, no telephone calls interrupting me, and of course I have to be feeling well physically, too. I can’t work when I have a headache.” The other end of procrastination—being unable to finish—also has a perfectionist explanation: “I’m just never satisfied. I’m my own harshest critic. If all the i’s aren’t dotted and all the t’s aren’t crossed, I just can’t consider that I’m done. That’s just the way I am, and I’ll probably never change.”

Do you see what’s going on here? A fault is being turned into a virtue. The perfectionist is saying that his standards are just too high for this world. This fault-into-virtue syndrome is a common defense when people are called upon to discuss their weaknesses, but in the end it’s just a very pious kind of excuse making. It certainly doesn’t have anything to do with what’s really behind procrastination.

Remember, the basis of procrastination could be fear of failure. That’s what perfectionism really is, once you take a hard look at it. What’s the difference whether you’re afraid of being less than perfect or afraid of anything else? You’re still paralyzed by fear. What’s the difference whether you never start or never finish? You’re still stuck. You’re still going nowhere. You’re still overwhelmed by whatever task is before you. You’re still allowing yourself to be dominated by a negative vision of the future in which you see yourself being criticized, laughed at, punished, or ridden out of town on a rail. Of course, this negative vision of the future is really a mechanism that allows you to do nothing. It’s a very convenient mental tool.

I’m going to tell you how to overcome procrastination. I’m going to show you how to turn procrastination into perseverance, and if you do what I suggest, the process will be virtually painless. It involves using two very powerful principles that foster productivity and perseverance instead of passivity and procrastination.

The first principle is: break it down.

No matter what you’re trying to accomplish, whether it’s writing a book, climbing a mountain, or painting a house, the key to achievement is your ability to break down the task into manageable pieces and knock them off one at one time. Focus on accomplishing what’s right in front of you at this moment. Ignore what’s off in the distance someplace. Substitute real-time positive thinking for negative future visualization. That’s the first all-important technique for bringing an end to procrastination.

Suppose I were to ask you if you could write a four-hundred-page novel. If you’re like most people, that would sound like an impossible task. But suppose I ask you a different question. Suppose I ask if you can write a page and a quarter a day for one year. Do you think you could do it? Now the task is starting to seem more manageable. We’re breaking down the four-hundred-page book into bite-size pieces. Even so, I suspect many people would still find the prospect intimidating. Do you know why? Writing a page and a quarter may not seem so bad, but you’re being asked to look ahead one whole year. When people start to do look that far ahead, many of them automatically go into a negative mode. So let me formulate the idea of writing a book in yet another way. Let me break it down even more.

Suppose I were to ask you, Can you fill up a page and a quarter with words—not for a year, not for a month, not even for a week, but just today? Don’t look any further ahead than that. I believe most people would confidently declare that they could accomplish that. Of course, these would be the same people who feel totally incapable of writing a whole book.

If I said the same thing to those people tomorrow–if I told them, I don’t want you to look back, and I don’t want you to look ahead, I just want you to fill up a page and a quarter this very day–do you think they could do it?

One day at a time. We’ve all heard that phrase. That’s what we’re doing here. We’re breaking down the time required for a major task into one–day segments, and we’re breaking down the work involved in writing a four-hundred-page book into page-and-a-quarter increments.

Keep this up for one year, and you’ll write the book. Discipline yourself to look neither forward nor backward, and you can accomplish things you never thought you could possibly do. And it all begins with those three words: break it down.

The second principle is: write it down.

My second technique for defeating procrastination is also only three words long. The three words are: write it down. We know how important writing is to goal setting. The writing you’ll do for beating procrastination is very similar. Instead of focusing on the future, however, you’re now going to be writing about the present just as you experience it every day. Instead of describing the things you want to do or the places you want to go, you’re going to describe what you actually do with your time, and you’re going to keep a written record of the places you actually go.

In other words, you’re going to keep a diary of your activities. And you’re going to be amazed by the distractions, detours, and downright wastes of time you engage in during the course of a day. All of these get in the way of achieving your goals. For many people, it’s almost like they planned it that way, and maybe at some unconscious level they did. The great thing about keeping a time diary is that it brings all this out in the open. It forces you to see what you’re actually doing... and what you’re not doing.

The time diary doesn’t have to be anything elaborate. Just buy a little spiral notebook that you can easily carry in your pocket. When you go to lunch, when you drive across town, when you go to the dry cleaners, when you spend some time shooting the breeze at the copying machine, make a quick note of the time you began the activity and the time it ends. Try to make this notation as soon as possible; if it’s inconvenient to do it immediately, you can do it later. But you should make an entry in your time diary at least once every thirty minutes, and you should keep this up for at least a week.

Break it down. Write it down. These two techniques are very straightforward. But don’t let that fool you: These are powerful and effective productivity techniques that allow you put an end to procrastination and help you get started to achieving your goals.

Make Waves 4 Yourself

A Great Read - Magnificent Monday:

THIS WEEK’S TIP: Make Waves for Yourself

When was the last time you consciously made “waves” for yourself? Have you allowed yourself to get so comfortable in your lifestyle that you have completely blocked out different thoughts and new perspectives about living?

Practically everything that is at one time considered cutting edge thought and technology eventually gives way to more productive approaches and perspectives. On a personal level, you will never know what areas of your personal life or what part of your routine can be improved if you don’t consider alternatives ways of doing what you’re doing. It is critical to remember that no matter how great things are in your life, it can always be better. Conversely, no matter how uncomfortable your current situation is, it can always get worse. The point is that nothing stays the same.

Routines can be productive, but they can also stifle your growth and eventually cause you to produce mediocre results if you don’t shake things up every once in awhile. If you don’t consciously shake things up for yourself in a productive way, nature (i.e., life) will do it for you in the most uncomfortable way.

THIS WEEK’S AFFIRMATION: I capitalize on all the waves, both natural and consciously created, in my life and I look forward to experiencing all of the benefits that result.

Special Thanks to S.R.I.

Stephen Covey's 10 Quotes For Success

Below are 10 quotes from Stephen Covey (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Covey) that have the power to completely change the direction of one’s life.

1) The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.

2) The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.

3) Live out of your imagination, not your history.

4) Trust is the glue of life. It’s the most essential ingredient in effective communication. It’s the foundational principle that holds all relationships.

5) Most of us spend too much time on what is urgent and not enough time on what is important.

6) I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.

7) ** You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage—pleasantly, smilingly, non apologetically, to say “no” to other things. And the way you do that is by having a bigger “yes” burning inside. The enemy of the “best” is often the “good.”

8) I teach people how to treat me by what I will allow.

9) Love is a verb. Love – the feeling – is the fruit of love the verb or our loving actions. So love her.

10) Live, love, laugh, leave a legacy.

Dreams & Goals

Establishing Dreams and Goals

One of the amazing things we have been given as humans is the unquenchable desire to have dreams of a better life, and the ability to establish goals to live out those dreams. Think of it: We can look deep within our hearts and dream of a better situation for ourselves and our families; dream of better financial lives and better emotional or physical lives; certainly dream of better spiritual lives. But what makes this even more powerful is that we have also been given the ability to not only dream but to pursue those dreams and not only to pursue them, but the cognitive ability to actually lay out a plan and strategies (setting goals) to achieve those dreams. Powerful!

What are your dreams and goals? This isn't what you already have or what you have done, but what you want. Have you ever really sat down and thought through your life values and decided what you really want? Have you ever taken the time to truly reflect, to listen quietly to your heart, to see what dreams live within you? Your dreams are there. Everyone has them. They may live right on the surface, or they may be buried deep from years of others telling you they were foolish, but they are there.

So how do we know what our dreams are? This is an interesting process and it relates primarily to the art of listening. This is not listening to others; it is listening to yourself. If we listen to others, we hear their plans and dreams (and many will try to put their plans and dreams on us). If we listen to others, we can never be fulfilled. We will only chase elusive dreams that are not rooted deep within us. No, we must listen to our own hearts.

Let's take a look at some practical steps/thoughts on hearing from our hearts what our dreams are:

Take time to be quiet. This is something that we don't do enough in this busy world of ours. We rush, rush, rush, and we are constantly listening to noise all around us. The human heart was meant for times of quiet, to peer deep within. It is when we do this that our hearts are set free to soar and take flight on the wings of our own dreams! Schedule some quiet "dream time" this week. No other people. No cell phone. No computer. Just you, a pad, a pen, and your thoughts.

Think about what really thrills you. When you are quiet, think about those things that really get your blood moving. What would you LOVE to do, either for fun or for a living? What would you love to accomplish? What would you try if you were guaranteed to succeed? What big thoughts move your heart into a state of excitement and joy? When you answer these questions you will feel great and you will be in the "dream zone." It is only when we get to this point that we experience what our dreams are!

Write down all of your dreams as you have them. Don't think of any as too outlandish or foolish—remember, you're dreaming! Let the thoughts fly and take careful record.

Now, prioritize those dreams. Which are most important? Which are most feasible? Which would you love to do the most? Put them in the order in which you will actually try to attain them. Remember, we are always moving toward action, not just dreaming.

Here is the big picture: Life is too short to not pursue your dreams. Someday your life will near its end and all you will be able to do is look backward. You can reflect with joy or regret. Those who dream, who set goals and act on them to live out their dreams, are those who live lives of joy and have a sense of peace when they near the end of their lives. They have finished well, for themselves and for their families.

Remember: These are the dreams and goals that are born out of your heart and mind. These are the goals that are unique to you and come from who you were created to be and gifted to become. Your specific goals are what you want to attain because they are what will make your life joyful and bring your family's life into congruence with what you want it to be.

Thank you JR...

Time 2 Step Up

Special Thanks to TF for this special reminder - "Step Up..." What if? That's ALWAYS an interesting question... What IF I would have committed myself a year ago? Where would I be today? What IF I opened my mouth and talked to that person about my business? Would they be in? What IF I actually got really consistent and worked my business every day? What IF I stepped up and did things I was uncomfortable with instead of avoid them? What IF I showed up for our national conference? Would it have changed me? What IF I followed up instead of dropped the ball on that prospect? The problem with those kinds of questions is that it leads to a life of... I wish I could, but... Life is way too damn short to live a life of regrets, what if's and I wish I could but I cant's. You deserve greatness in your life IF and only WHEN you step up to the plate and begin to face your demons, your fears and the things that you know are surmountable. Sitting on the sidelines watching life and your business pass you by is no way to live. Life is not a spectator sport. It wants your participation. We are designed for greatness. We are designed to grow, develop and prosper. But...not if we sit. If you sit on your sofa, the only dent in life you make is in the sofa pad itself. It's sad when I have friends I see struggling because of their own decisions or lack of decision making, say "I wish I could play golf with you, but I have to work." Or..."I wish I could go on that trip with you and the boys, but I just can't afford it." What if you DO take more action? What IF it works? Why not you? Why not you...now? Say YES to you. If you've been hovering in your network marketing business and doing very little or not enough and you KNOW it, then CHANGE! Get up. Go in a different direction and put one foot in front of the other. One step at a time in a new and different direction will change you and change your entire destination, and ultimately, your destiny. Are you ready to say YES to you? To more productivity? To a booming 2013? Then you need to take the first step. No one else can do it for you... What IF this became the biggest and most successful year of your life? See you on stage! b2

This Year...

It's another Magnificent Beginning 2 A New Year! Where did 2012 go?

You have been blessed to see the start of another glorious year. The slate has been wiped clean (of the good and bad). You have another opportunity to BE MORE and DO BETTER. This year can be your best year ever!. Remember, success is just a string of successful weeks tied together.

Here’s a quote that is particularly insightful and motivating:
Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors. ~African Proverb

THIS YEAR’S TIP: Embrace Challenges When They Come

Challenges (big and small) exist for us to grow, evolve and become wiser. You must learn the lesson from a challenge or more challenges for that same lesson will repeat until you learn it. And, rarely will the lesson be given to you under the same facts and circumstances again.

The lesson I’m referring to is the underlying timeless principle(s). Understanding and applying timeless principles to new situations IS THE KEY to moving forward in a significant way. So, instead of being totally disillusioned by challenges, just ask, "What lessons … what principles are being taught to me by this challenge?" And get excited and say to yourself, "How interesting it is to witness my character and integrity being strengthened." I know this may seem out there to some. However, taking this approach is far more likely to help your situation than doing the opposite … moaning, groaning, crying and complaining.

THIS YEAR’S AFFIRMATION: I choose to expand my perspective by reading at least one strategically chosen book a month on a subject that will have maximum positive impact on my ability to accelerate achievement of my goals.
